Basmati is an aromatic long-grain rice from Northern India. The word ‘basmati’ literally means fragrant in Hindi. Although widely grown worldwide, the variety from India is unmatched in its flavor and taste. So, look for an Organic version at your local Indian grocery store, if possible.
Measure 2-1/4 cups of clean water and set aside.
Add the rice and water.
Stir in the salt.
Close the Instant Pot and let it complete its cycle.
After the timer goes off, wait 10 minutes then manually release the pressure.
Scrape the cooked rice from the edge toward the center so the grains remain intact.
Although flavorful by itself, a touch of freshly roasted cumin seed takes the basmati rice to the next level. It’s best enjoyed with beans, lentils or a curry vegetable or meat dish. However, when in a pinch, or wishing to eat something light on a hot summer day, it also pairs well with yogurt or raita.
